Children’s Museum of Photography, Kraków

Adults weren’t the only subject of studio portrait photography, children were also photographed, and the photos evidenced the role of that age group in past societies very well. Due to what historically had forever been a high rate of child mortality people did not have  strong emotional connections to children, whose particular psychophysical conditions were not taken into account. With few exceptions, their presence in the adult world was negligible. Children were not treated as autonomous and fully self-determining individuals. How else can you interpret bringing a youngster to a studio and forcing them to pose naked? The objectification of nudity cannot even be explained by the desire to show off the model's good physical condition. Additionally, there is another, equally paradoxical, tendency to force children into the mould of adult life.
