Ks Bronisław Świeykowski

Prelate Bronisław Świeykowski was born on 14 April 1865 in Uherce. He joined the army after finishing his studies. An accident suffered during his military service derailed his career in the cavalry. In 1885, he entered the Seminary in Przemyśl where he was ordained as a priest in 1889. He received further education in Innsbruck and Rome. He was sent to serve in Gorlice in 1895. After the outbreak of World War I, the Gorlice Town Council entrusted him with the management of municipal affairs and the care of the population, and appointed him Commissioner Mayor. He joined in the reconstruction and protection of the town’s monuments after the war. In addition to his heroism during WWI, Rev. Świeykowski was also known for his extensive charity work and passion for nature. He actively participated in the social and political affairs of the town and of the region. On 27 January 1956, he died aged 91 after a long and severe illness.
