At the centre of the Square is a statue of the Mother of God erected in 1884 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Walking from here along the route surrounding the Basilica, one passes old former townhouses that now house various diocesan institutions: Biblos publishing house, the Diocesan Museum, the seat of the cathedral’s Pueri Cantores Tarnovienses choir and, after that, the house for auxiliary bishops (Suffragania), the vicarage of the Cathedral parish and the Pastoral and Catechetical Centre.
