History Written in a Fob is the largest collection in Poland and probably in Europe of fobs that were used to fasten family seals, signets, watches, keys or cosmetics from the 18th to the 20th century. The exhibits include patriotic and numismatic fobs, guild and zoomorphic fobs as well as religious and occultist fobs. Different ways of wearing items of this sort from the 18th to early 20th century are presented on mannequins wearing outfits from that time. Such jewellery was worn both by women and men in various forms, e.g., short fob chains, guard chains, classic Alberts or typically feminine chatelaines or equipages. Fobs were made of various materials – gold (French), polished steel (English), silver, copper, brass or human hair – and decorated with precious or semi-precious stones. The popularity of fobs ended with the popularisation of wrist watches during World War I (initially considered a women’s fashion whim) that were more practical in the field.
