Painters’ House, Zalipie

The Painters’ House in Zalipie serves as the County Culture Centre in Olesno. The building was built on the initiative of Felicia Curyłowa, a well-known Zalipie folk artist, and opened in September 1977. Local folk artists have ensured that the building fits in with the character of the village; it is richly decorated with traditional floral motifs both inside and out.

The most important tasks of the Painters’ House are the care, maintenance, and development of the unique tradition of decorating houses and entire homesteads with original floral motifs, as well as looking after folk artists, the promotion of Zalipie at home and abroad, and tourist support.

Among other things, visitors can get information on Zalipie art, visit an exhibition about the painting tradition, see a photographic exhibition of the annual ‘Painted Cottage’ competition entries, and a gallery of works by artists from the Powiśle Dąbrowskie region. Art workshops on a wide range of topics are organised for interested tour groups. At the Painters’ House, you can also buy souvenirs and relax in the beautiful traditional garden, which adds to the location’s charm and delights during the tourist season. In the large auditorium, on the ceiling is a magnificent ‘spider’ made of crêpe paper flowers. The Zalipie Painters’ Association has its headquarters here.
