The armed clash of the Polish army under the command of Major General Tadeusz Kościuszko with the Russian army led by Major General Alexander Tormasov. The battle was fought on 4th April 1794 as part of the Kościuszko Uprising near the village of Racławice, now situated in The Małopolska Region.

The victory of the Polish army, despite its slight military significance, raised the morale of the rebels as early as twelve days after the initiation of the uprising. The defeated scythe-bearers were buried where they died. Their mass grave can be found on the site of the battle.
