The “Malowana Chata” (“Painted Cottage”) competition is organised by the District Museum in Tarnów and the House of Painters in Zalipie and is the longest-running folk art competition in Poland. The competition jury visits the painted cottages during the 2 weekend days following Corpus Christi Day and announces the final results on Sunday. It is a great celebration in Zalipie, which culminates in the so-called “Zalipie Festival”, organised by the House of Painters. Objectives of the Competition: Maintaining the living traditions of decoration, in particular painting, in the Powiśle Dąbrowskie region; Documentation of the development and transformations taking place in this field of folk art; The competition covers the following aspects of folk art: Paintings on the walls of farm and residential buildings; Paintings on the interior walls; Paintings on canvas and paper; Interior decorations: cut-outs, spiders, tissue paper bouquets.
