It all began with the purchase of a few old collections of prepared butterflies. Today, Jacek Kobiela's collection is an impressive cross-section of native and exotic specimens, which can be admired right here in Bochnia. In recent years, this private museum has become one of the main attractions of the region.

One man and a great passion, a love of travelling and collecting, stand behind this remarkable and unique collection. Thanks to this combination, the collection of the ARTHROPODA Butterfly Museum contains specimens acquired over the last 130 years. Who is Jacek Kobiela? He is a fine artist, art restorer, and naturalist by avocation. Moreover, he is a determined and courageous person. He has amassed an impressive collection of over five thousand specimens. The exhibition includes an overview of both diurnal and nocturnal butterflies. These butterflies belong to most families and genera found on all continents (except Antarctica). They can be found in all climatic and zoographic zones. Butterflies are also divided according to their presence on a given continent or continents. In addition to butterflies, the exhibition, which is expanding all the time, includes other arthropods such as beetles, cicadas, praying mantises, scorpions, true bugs and spiders.
