It's a tradition for famous artists to unveil in Oświęcim a mural that they designed that would be related to the peaceful message of the Life Festival Oświęcim organised by the Peace Festival Foundation with financial support of the city of Oświęcim
The famous Polish graphic artist Andrzej Pągowski has over a thousand posters in his portfolio, he is also the author of book and magazine illustrations, album covers, theatre and television show decorations as well as screenplays for films and videoclips. 'When I received the phonecall that I would be able to do a mural here, in Oświęcim, I thought that it's something extraordinary. I'm celebrating 35 years of my work as an artist – so this is an important year for me, and many years ago my father's entire family perished in Auschwitz. I thought that returning to Oświęcim and doing this mural about peace, about music, I make not only a political declaration but I also show that there are people of culture and art in the world who, through their work, declare that they want life in peace, that they do not want war. We leave behind these symbols, and you think about this. These declarations, these traces, are important. Music is important for me, rock music in particular, so this mural for Oświęcim. (…) I was looking for a symbol that would fit the street. The place is perfect, it's clean, it gives the artist the opportunity to create a strong sign. It is not a poster – I rather wanted to find a strong sign for this wall.' Andrzej Pagowski about the Guitarrist.
