Dziubek’s Cottage, Wedding Chamber

For the wedding to take place, the young couple had to partake in all sorts of rituals and procedures, often of a magical nature. Some of the many customs include ‘podłazy’ (visits paid on Christmas after the midnight mass), a ‘polewacka’ on Easter Monday, putting a ‘moja’, ‘srynkowiny’ (engagement), and only then the festive wedding and reception ceremonies. All of this could only happen with the consent and blessing of the parents who often were the ones to choose the husband or wife for their child during the so-called ‘nomowiny’. Such decisions were hugely dependent on the family wealth and dowry.
