Tadeusz Urbańczyk was born on July 19, 1887, in Kraków, where he spent his childhood. He was the son of Franciszek, the county builder in Chrzanów, and Antonina, née Miaskowska. He attended the classical Jesuit secondary school in Chyrów, then pursued Polish, Classical, and German Studies at Jagiellonian University. He completed his studies with a professorial exam. After university, he moved in to the family house in Chrzanów, at 16 Aleja Henryka Street. In 1927, he married Irena Giżejewska. They had three children. He began his teaching career in a private ‘realschule’ secondary school and worked in Chrzanów his entire life, with short breaks. During his long career, he taught Polish, history, Latin, Greek, and geography, managed the student library, led the school choir and orchestra, founded and became the curator for the A. Mickiewicz Friends of Science Society, and organised study groups. When Adolf Loewenfeld, together with a group of professors and students, started a male choir in 1916, Urbańczyk became its first conductor and artistic director. For many years, he was an honorary member of ‘Sokół’, a director, set designer, and soul of amateur theatre in the city. He died August 19, 1973, and was buried in Chrzanów.
