Cottage, Meeting of Cultures Centre

Ośrodek Spotkania Kultur - Chata

Entering the second part of the underground area of the Meeting of Cultures Centre, we see a country cottage with a lighted window and a barn. It is a concept of the exhibition’s creators that directs visitors’ attention to the functional purpose of these rooms (men’s and women’s toilets). In the window of the cottage, you can watch an archival documentary film about the funeral of Felicja Curyłowa – the most famous painter in the history of Zalipie, the forerunner of world fashion for this most recognisable Polish village. Near the Zalipie cottage you can also see objects related to the material culture of the village. On the walls hang pictures of three great Polish politicians: Marshal Józef Piłsudski, the Prime Minister of the Second Polish Republic Wincenty Witos, and the hero of two homelands, Poland and the USA, Kazimierz Pułaski. In the passage between the rooms on the left, you can see photographs of places worth seeing in Zalipie, located in Wiesław Trójniak’s house and homestead (including a year-round nativity scene). In a separate place is the first post-war kosher café, ‘The Nosh’, run by Gerald Vineberg under the supervision of Rabbi Michael Schudrich, the owner of this establishment and the only kosher restaurant and café in Tarnów by the same name. Here you can sample delicacies of Jewish cuisine and taste coffee made from the highest quality beans, specially imported to Tarnów and Dąbrowa. Of note is the mezuzah placed on the door frame leading into ‘The Nosh’ café.
