Hall of National Memory, Dobczyce Castle

The Hall of National Memory is located in the cellar, opposite the dungeon.

A collection of Polish and German soldiers’ helmets has been placed in a niche in the front wall. Below, we can see mess tins, cannonball casings, rifle barrels, and fragments of the caterpillar track of a Soviet tank destroyed by the Germans in the Dobczyce Market Square on January 21, 1945, and other memorabilia from the Second World War.

The display cases contain memorabilia related to the Home Army partisans and a written statement about Operation Tempest and the activities of the Home Army in Dobczyce and surrounding areas. Noteworthy is the list of more than 100 members of the Home Army from Dobczyce, including 26 women liaison officers and nurses, and a mention of the battle of Łysina, fought by partisans (including Dobczyce residents) against the Germans on 12 September 1944.

A separate exhibition is dedicated to Dobczyce’s Jews and their mass murder.
