I. J. Paderewski’s Manor House, Kąśna Dolna

Paderewski’s manor house is his only house located in Poland. The manor house’s permanent exhibition consists of furniture and household items belonging to the National Museum in Warsaw. The whole is complemented by memorabilia related to the patron of the place, which shed light on his public and private life. Visitors to the manor house can see, among other things, the Master’s Study and Helena Paderewska’s Bedroom. A particularly valuable exhibit is the artist’s original Petrof-brand piano, located in the neo-Rococo living room, surrounded by furniture from Antonin Hrabák’s factory in Kutná Hora in the Czech Republic and from the oldest Polish bentwood furniture factory, ‘Wojciechów’.  These items date from the time when Paderewski lived and resided here. Among the most interesting objects collected in the manor house are Paderewski’s book collection, his travelling trunks, two neoclassical armchairs, and a 19th-century stool-shaped toilet with a removable ceramic bowl from. The Fazioli piano standing in the hall – a gift from Professor Urs Ruchti from Switzerland – is valuable. The instrument came to Kąśna in July 1996 and has since been played by the most outstanding pianists of international renown.
