Tarnów Cathedral

There is a bronze plaque on the external wall of the apse of the Basilica (eastern side) that commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Tarnów diocese celebrated in 1986. It was designed by Czesław Dźwigaj. Next to it is a bronze monument to Pope John Paul II designed by Bronisław Chromy, uncovered on 29 June 1981 just after the attempt on the life of the pope. Adjacent to the monument is a bronze figure of the Crucified Christ designed by Antoni Madeyski in 1899. Roman Brandstaetter, a writer, poet and playwright, owes his conversion to that figure.
