Tarnów Cathedral

To the west and north, the cathedral is surrounded by 16th-century tenement houses. They house the oldest Diocesan Museum in Poland founded in 1888. The complex of Museum buildings consists of the scholasteria (formerly the Academy that was a branch of the Krakow University), the Mikołajowski House (built in 1524 by a Tarnów burgher Jan Mikołajowski; this is where the rector of the Academy lived) and the House of Mansionaries. These tenement houses, the seat of the Cathedral’s Pueri Centores Tarnovienses choir and the suffragan house (the house for auxiliary bishops) comprise the picturesque surroundings of the Cathedral.
