Ethnography Museum Kęty

Ekspozycja etnograficzna

In the ethnographic room, it is worth noting the Lendian costume on display. Many scholars consider the Lendians an ethnographic group encompassing the people at the junction of Silesia, the Kraków area, and the Beskids. The women’s costume consisted of a linen half-petticoat and shirt, a skirt with a ‘lajbik’, an apron, and an outer garment. On cold days, women wore woollen shoulder warmers and head scarves made of linen, wool, or silk. Other exhibited objects are old furniture and everyday items. Among the most interesting are bread stamps, a gingerbread mould, a pilgrim jug, and the earthenware and stoneware from the late 19th century. Other interesting objects include 19th-century dowry chests from the Kęty area. The exhibition is complemented by tools, both those used for work in the fields and those produced in Kęty factories (e.g., a chaff cutter). An electric model of a water mill shows work related to the power of the water wheel: grinding on querns, pressing oil, fulling, or sawing wood.
