The basis of what is said in ‘Tadeusz Pankiewicz's Pharmacy in the Kraków Ghetto’ are the memoirs of Tadeusz Pankiewicz, the owner of the pharmacy and a witness of the events described therein, first published just after the war in a book titled ‘The Krakow Ghetto Pharmacy’. The exhibition occupies the rooms of the former pharmacy, and the original functions of those rooms provide the basis for the analysis of themes from the ghetto's history, the figure of Tadeusz Pankiewicz himself, and the people he worked with: Irena Droździkowska, Aurelia Danek-Czort, and Helena Krywaniuk. In the shipping room, the visitors will learn the history of the place and people; in the formula room, they will discover various recipes for survival in the ghetto; in the emergency room, they will meet Tadeusz Pankiewicz, the witness and a chronicler of the Holocaust, and in the materials room, they will feel the atmosphere of the pharmacy as a meeting place and shelter for the inhabitants of the ghetto. Finally, in the laboratory, they will confront the post-war history of remembering and not remembering Kraków's Jews. In the years 1941–1943, the staff of the pharmacy witnessed the occupation forces’ systematic murder of Kraków's Jews and the destruction of their centuries-old history. Pankiewicz and his colleagues were remarkable in that at great risk to themselves, they took action to alleviate human suffering; they provided help to those in need, and after the war, they provided accounts of the tragic events that took place in the Kraków ghetto.
