I Lecture Theatre, Collegium Maius, Kraków

The Jagiellonian Hall used to be the theologians’ lecture room. It is located in the oldest part of Collegium Maius, in the former house of the knight Mikołaj Pęcherz of Rzeszotary. On the portal that leads from the Copernicus Treasury, there is the University's motto, introduced into the statute of the University after World War II: Plus ratio quam vis, which means ‘Reason before force’.

The walls of the Hall are ornamented with portraits of the most important figures in the history of the University: Polish kings, bishops of Kraków (the chancellors of the University), and above all, the most eminent professors, including the University’s presidents called ‘rectors’.
