Ticket Window, Collegium Maius, Kraków

Next to the promotional stand of the University, there is a passage called in Polish ‘Długa Sień’ (Long Hallway), decorated with paintings from the 16th century. Through that corridor you can get to the Professors' Garden, which  was reopened in 2008 after it had been renovated. In the Garden, there are restored the 19th-century sculptures of professors dressed in gowns and birettas, holding models of scientific instruments. The history of the Garden dates back to the 15th century. The garden used to serve the professors of the University. Fruit and vegetables were grown there and there was also an enclosure for farm animals (mainly poultry). Over time, the Garden began to deteriorate, especially at the end of the 18th century. Currently, the Professors’ Garden hosts exhibitions, meetings and concerts. The Garden is open to visitors seasonally.
