In addition to the dyehouse, a copy of a mangle from Šumiac is another building associated with the phenomenon of dyeing and linen-making. No such facilities have survived to our times in Orawa so the copy was based on the documentation provided by the Museum of the Slovak Countryside in Martno and on the appliance held in the Museum of Orawa Countryside in Zuberec. It is a large but simple building equipped with a mangle driven by a horse engine. The engine driven usually by the power of draught animals and with the help of a gearbox moved the ‘kaśnia’ – a box usually filled with stones, which moved back and forth on the rollers on which the cloth was wound. Such appliances helped make the cloth more durable and improved its quality.
