‘Panorama’, Roadbuilding Museum and Open-Air Exhibition

The ‘Panorama’ is the oldest part of the building, showing the road construction in the early 20th century with the use of the method worked out by engineer John Loudon McAdam who has revolutionized road construction by offering a new roadbuilding technique (macadam). Visitors can learn about the work of a road worker, bridge carpenter, paver and a gate-keeper, see handheld equipment and historical tools. Nearby are old bitumen containers of 1960s, made of concrete and equipped with a heating system connected to a boiler. They made it possible to produce 12, 25 and 30 tons bituminous mass per day depending on the equipment that changed over the years with the industrial progress.
