The external exhibition is shaped as a snail shell and its length along the paths amounts to about 1.5 km. At the top is an entrance to a tourist footbridge built of trusses. Such bridges, according to an idea of a Briton Donald Bailey, were often built during the World War II. Various road surfaces arranged chronologically from the top are displayed along the alley with the cross-section of each road type visible. The open-air exhibition includes more than 90 various pieces of equipment used in the roadbuilding industry over the years. This is authentic equipment operating on roads, fuelled by steam or combustion engines, horses or human muscles. Most of them are operational and some are occasionally activated.
