Pantry, Chochołów Uprising Museum

The village of Chochołów in Podhale has a rich history dating back to the early 16th century. The first known document was a 1592 royal privilege for the hereditary sołtys (head of rural district) title issued by King Zygmunt III Waza to Bartłomiej Chochołowski for his participation in the expedition against Moscow. Many other holders of the sołtys office in Chochołów became famous for their valour in the royal armies. During the Deluge in 1655–1656, residents of Chochołów became known for their participation in the war under the leadership of the Babimost starost, Krzysztof Żegocki. Successive Polish kings approved the rights and privileges of the office of sołtys in Chochołów. Chochołów residents also participated in the Bar Confederation.
