A well, Galician Town, Nowy Sącz

The well refers to prototypes as an interesting part of the townscape, and not only in the former Galicia. Town wells were usually located in the central part of the town square and as publicly accessible sources of potable water. The device used for drawing water from the stone-cased shaft was usually located under an openwork wooden canopy supported by pillars. Such structures have been in use for a long time, e.g., in Limanowa, Sławkowo, Krościenko and Jarosław, as can be seen on photographs from the interwar period. A town water well made of brick has been preserved to this day on the town square in Piwniczna.
