Internal Courtyard, Nowy Wiśnicz Castle

Dziedziniec wewnętrzny zamku w Nowym Wiśniczu

The northern side of the internal courtyard is decorated with an arcaded loggia from the mid-17th century, based on the example of cloisters in the Wawel castle courtyard. Note a fragment of polychrome preserved in the frieze under the ceiling, depicting the ‘Conversation Between the Sun God Helios and his Son Phaethon’ and the three illusionistic windows reconstructed on the adjacent wall. The courtyard is closed on the southern side with a representative staircase that also constitutes a solution similar to the one found in Wawel Castle.
