The exhibition focuses on the period after the World War II, which was the period of reconstruction and development of Oświęcim. New housing estates were being built in the town. Towards the end of 1945, the Oświęcim Chemical Plant, a rubber producer and the town's largest employer, was put into operation. It employed 12 thousand people during its operations in the 1970s. Thanks to the Plant’s support, a centre of culture, an artificial ice rink and an indoor swimming pool were built. New enterprises were opened, e.g., the OMAG Mining Machinery Spare Parts Factory, the Oświęcim Car Repair Plant (OZNS) and the Building Company later called the Building Conglomerate. The Syntetyka Union Sports Club in Dwory was established at the plant to later become the nucleus of the Unia Oświęcim sports club. The display cabinet contains the original skates that belonged to Mariusz Puzio, a player of Unia Oświęcim, as well as a banner and a cup from 1998/1999. Each visitor can try their hand as a player and score a goal to commemorate the eight times that the hockey team won the Championship of Poland. In addition to the hockey section, swimming, skating and football also develop rapidly in Oświęcim. An interactive dice game allows the visitors to explore the town and its historical monuments. Contemporary Oświęcim has a population of 38,000. The city is home to many cultural and educational institutions such as the Oświęcim Centre of Culture, International Youth Meeting House, Łukasz Górnicki Book Gallery, the Jewish Centre, the Centre for Dialogue and Prayer, and the Polish Roma Association. It is a place where film screenings, outdoor events, exhibitions, conferences, sessions and debates are often organised. The Kasztelański Fair takes place each year and Town Days are celebrated on September 3. The Life Festival concert, a meeting place for different nationalities, views and religions, is one of the largest peace initiatives. Oświęcim is a town that continues to develop for its inhabitants and for tourists.
