Castle cellars occupy the eastern and southern wings of the building. The Gotycka (Gothic) cellar, the oldest one of them, dates back to the 14th century and retains typical elements of the gothic style. This is where it is possible to feel the activity of the mysterious chakram. The legend says that ‘by order of King Casimir the Great, a chest was brought with a stone of incredible magical power excavated from the deepest parts of the Wawel Hill. The stone was used as the foundation stone of the castle.’ Other cellars were built during the castle refurbishment in the 16th century and were used to store wine and meats. Today, this is where the Foundation of the Royal Castle holds concerts of old and contemporary music, recitals, performances, banquets and official receptions are held. As the manager of the castle, the Foundation also manages the Conference Centre, including the hotel and the restaurant. Rooms are named after kings, equipped with oak furniture made to order and have Internet access. The conference room for 260 people hosts congresses and training courses while business meetings, balls and family events take place in other parts of the castle such as the Portrait Room, lounges and in the largest part of the castle, the Acoustic Room.
