Władysław Orkan’s House, Poręba Wielka

Drewniana Orkanówka widziana z zewnątrz.

The Orkanówka exhibition consists of not only the writer’s memorabilia but also numerous exhibits depicting the life of the village inhabitants one hundred years ago. During Orkan’s life, the house saw famous guests and also village children taught reading by the writer’s mother. After Orkan’s death during the World War II, Orkanówka sheltered the local partisans. At one point, a group of 32 group of 32 Soviet parachute jumpers stayed in the writer’s house. Sick people visited Orkanówka in the summer when Orkan’s heirs stayed there and Wilhelmina Folejewska (the adopted son’s wife) treated them, mostly with herbs.
