A Cottage from Moszczenica

Chałupa z Moszczenicy

The building used to be a part of a moderately prosperous farm. It consists of four rooms arranged in a single file: a walkthrough hallway with a pantry chamber to the left, a kitchen to the right and a dwelling room behind it. The floor in the pantry and the dwelling room is made of planks while the hallway and kitchen have a compacted clay threshing floor. The interiors were decorated in the style of the 1930s. At that time, the original kitchen with a stove fuelled with timber and coal got a sheet-covered hearth, a smoke chimney with a ventilation hood, a large baking top and an oven for home heating behind the wall. The kitchen contains basic cookware, utensils, benches, shelves and a bed for an elderly person. The room contains furniture made by a carpenter and is traditionally decorated with tapestries, wooden birds, flowers made of tissue paper and a mobile suspended from the ceiling. The pantry chamber was used for the storage of equipment and food and was also a place to sleep during the summer months. Many tools for fibre processing and food storage equipment can be seen here.
