Barn from Zagórzany, Open-air Museum of Rural Pogórze

Stodoła z Zagórzan

The late 18th-century structure comes from a homestead in a well-to-do parish. The building is exceptionally large (occupying 160 m2). Its walls are made of large spruce logs and the massive rafter-collar hipped roof is thatched. The barn houses a permanent exhibition titled ‘Gorlice Operation Staff Room. 1915’. The exhibition presents a range of historical figures: Archduke Charles Stephen of Austria, General Franz von Hötzendorf, General August von Mackensen, General Erich von Falkenhayn, Major General Tadeusz Rozwadowski, Colonel Franciszek Latinik, the staff liaison officer and cavalryman of the Imperial and Royal Austro-Hungarian Army. The full-scale figures of the staff members wear full uniforms, including medals and weapons, faithfully copied from the originals. The second part of the exhibition consists of four figures from a military field hospital: wounded soldiers and a nurse from the Austro-Hungarian army’s medical service. The third component of the exhibition consists of full-scale 3-dimensional figures depicting a soldier of the Austro-Hungarian army escorting Russian prisoners of war.
