Cathedral, Locksmithing Museum, Świątniki Górne

There would have been no metalsmithing and padlock production without the privilege of service at Wawel Cathedral for the Świątniki craftsmen who acquired professional knowledge thanks to it. It was a proof of great trust to hold the keys to the cathedral’s treasury. They were the ones who guided pilgrims through the interior of the cathedral, who were altar servers and bellringers. They also did simple chores in the Cathedral. The fact that they were appreciated for their work is evidenced by a portrait of one of them made (at the special request of the Cathedral authorities) by an outstanding Polish painter, Leon Wyczółkowski. Old school certificates and first class records allow us to learn about the history of the Locksmithing School.
