The exhibition features a reconstruction of the interior of a kitchen, the so-called ‘black room’, with original furnishings and decorative elements by Felicja Curyłowa. Of note here is a traditional stove with a hood, painted light blue with a colourful floral pattern, with a display of plates featuring patterns by the painter. The stove retains a small section painted in archaic ‘packi’ (circular white pattern on a black background). The room is furnished with numerous old pieces of furniture, such as a bench known as ‘szlufan’, a sideboard with painted tableware decorated with cut-outs, so-called ‘zęby’ (lit. ‘teeth’). White openwork cut-out curtains hang in the windows. There are also two tables, one smaller than the other, covered with colourful painted tablecloths and a chest decorated with painted cardboard. In the corner stands a bed with a painted cover and pillows piled high. A yellow band with colourful floral motifs runs along the walls, and the ceiling is decorated with cardboard painted in floral motifs (wreaths). Colourful painted ornaments on cardboard, paintings, oleographs, and photographs hang on the walls. The entire exhibition is completed by paper crafts: numerous bouquets of crêpe paper flowers, hanging spiders, a wedding pole (‘rózga weselna’), and an Easter palm. The interior has retained the unique atmosphere of a space imbued with decorative art, harmonised in composition and colour.
