The Sanctuary of the Tuchów Mother of God is one of the oldest and most frequently visited sanctuaries in south-eastern Poland and in the Tarnów diocese. Crowds of pilgrims come to the sanctuary all year round, especially on 1–9 July during the Tuchów great indulgence fair and on 8 September for the small indulgence fair. An image of the Mother of God with the Child painted between 1530 and 1540, perhaps in the workshop of the so-called Master of the Bodzentyn Triptych, is worshipped in the belief that it works miracles. In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI granted the church the title of basilica minor. Next to the church are the buildings of the monastery of the Redemptorist Congregation that looks after the sanctuary. There has been a Redemptorist Mission Museum at the monastery and the sanctuary since 1975. A movable Christmas nativity scene diorama constructed in 1974–1975 by Father Kazimierz Zymuła can be seen in the missionary museum room. Figurines in the scene are characters related to the history of Poland and the Polish Church.
