Pawlaczek Homestead

Drewniana chałupa kryta gontem i słomą.

It is one of the last 19th-century houses with a ‘wyżka’ that survived in the countryside of Orawa till the early 21st century. Its classic layout and the appearance typical for the Orawa architecture with the characteristic hip roof partly covered with straw, the front partly undercut to allow for a porch/gallery called a ‘przedwysce’, has completely disappeared from contemporary villages of Orawa. Today, the countryside is very different from the former wooden one that matched the landscape of Babia Góra, a wonderful example of harmony between man and nature. The interior is an illustration of people’s life in Orawa at the turn of the 20th century. The furnishings are typical for the period and stresses its uniqueness. The inscription ANNO DOMINI 1884 DIE 30 JUNI. JOHANNES ZAHORA visible on the crossbeam in the white room and decorated with beautiful rosettes and a floral motif introduces a world long gone.
