On the 1st of July 2009, on the 120th anniversary of opening the collection to the public of Zakopane, Tytus Chałubiński’s Tatra Museum opened a new branch with a permanent exhibition titled ‘Zakopane Style – Inspirations’. Its aim is to show the roots of the Zakopane style: folk architecture, Goral cottage furnishings, and the ethnographic collections taking shape towards the end of the 19th century, especially Maria and Bronisław Dembowski’s collection. The cottage located near Kościeliska Street, famous for its historic buildings, once belonged to the Goral Gąsienic-Sobczak family. It is one of the most precious monuments of folk architecture in Zakopane. Its oldest part was built circa 1830, and its current shape is the result of a late-19th-century expansion.
