As of yet, it has not been possible to determine the time when the village of Dębno was founded, as no traces of a foundation document of the gord have been found so far. The first document mentioning the village of Dębno dates back to the times of Bolesław Wstydliwy (1226–1279). Issued on 11 November 1264, the document states that Komes Świętosław of the Gryfit family received the village of Dębno from Duke Bolesław as a grant in recognition of his merits. It is possible that at that time, there was already a small wooden gord surrounded by a moat, material traces of which have been found on the south-western slope of the hill. In 1317, the village was owned by Mszczuj of the Pobogów family, and then by his son Jakub, signing as ‘de Monte Vini’, according to a document from Władysław Łokietek’s chancellery dated October 6, 1317. Another document, issued in Lelów on 2 January 1357, bears the seal of Casimir the Great and grants Piotr Odrowąż the right to transfer Dębno to the Magdeburg Law.
