Tourist region: Beskid Sądecki i Niski
Nowy Sącz, one of the oldest and most beautiful towns in Małopolska, It boasts a great history, beautiful monuments, and intriguing museums – the reconstructed Galician Town offering a fascinating journey into 19th-century Galicia, and the Sącz Ethnographic Park.
Nowy Sącz, nestled on the banks of the Dunajec River in the heart of the picturesque Sącz Basin, is also a great gateway to the Beskid Sądecki. In this land of gentleness, life moves at a slower pace and the paths are ideal for unhurried wandering, savouring every moment in harmony with nature. The town's beautiful views, picturesque forests, undulating mountain ridges and valleys shimmering in a palette of colours and hues create a serene backdrop for your visit. Nor should we forget the charming towns and the culture, which is both rich and unusual.
It is also a borderland, ethnically colourful and culturally diverse – it has always been a place where faiths, cultures, peoples and nations meet. It is an intriguing cultural melting pot with numerous national, ethnic and religious minorities – a Little Homeland for Poles, Armenians, Slovaks, Ukrainians, Jews, Lemkos and Roma. It is a land of spas and centuries-old wooden Roman Catholic churches and Orthodox churches (located on the unique Małopolska Wooden Architecture Route) and of today's abandoned, once vibrant Lemko villages – a land of great history and great wars. A treasure trove of knowledge about the area is the Nowy Sącz Tourist Information Centre.
The Tourist Information Centre (CIT) is located in the heart of the town, just 700 metres from the VeloDunajec route. It is easy to find – the tenement house stands on the city's main promenade, at the corner of Jagiellońska and Szwedzka Streets, and is adorned with a statue of Władysław Jagiełło.
CIT offers free maps, tourist guides about the Nowy Sącz region, as well as folders describing the most interesting cycling routes in Małopolska that are available in several languages. You can also buy interesting guidebooks, albums, postcards, and souvenirs. The Centre also hosts exhibitions, e.g., of works by local artists.
The Tourist Information Centre also runs a very extensive website, ziemiasadecka.info, where you can find out what is worth visiting and seeing in the region and what events are taking place in the Nowy Sącz region. Here, you can get the information about the repertoire of cinemas and the calendar of the most interesting events as well as look for accommodation and places to eat. The website also presents a very extensive list of sights and attractions of the Nowy Sącz region for active people, families with children and seniors.
It is also a Bicycle Friendly Place – MPR.
