The idea for this winery was born in a rather unusual country for wine. Namely in Norway, when Stanisław Szymański enjoyed a Saturday evening, after a hard week's work, with wine made by hand from extract purchased from a local shop.
The desire to own a vineyard won out, and in 2015, the first 210 vines were planted in autumn. These were Jutrzenka, Aurora, Seyval Blanc, and Solaris for white wine and Marchel Foch, Leon Millot, Rondo and Regent for red wines. From that point on, everything gained momentum. Mr Stanisław became a student in the 3rd year of the Podkarpacie Wine Academy in Jasło, and shortly afterwards, the winery was officially named Szykowna, after the village of Szyk. The first grape harvest took place in 2018. There is no denying that the owners are incredibly talented, as the first bottled wines were already praised by experts, with Jutrzenka Beskidzka scoring a high 83 on a 100-point scale.  This moment inspired the planting of more vines and two new varieties of Riesling (white) and Cabernet Cortis (red), so today, Szykowna Vineyard has as many as 1,000 vines on 55 acres. Thanks to the natural process, the wines here are crisp and expressive without mechanical filtration. Imagine all of this surrounded by amazing nature. The plot offers a view of Mt Kostrza, the Beskid Wyspowy with Mt Ćwilin, Mt Śnieżnica or Mt Łopień. As the owners themselves write about the charm of the place: ‘It's such a magical place that it alone attracts people here. The silence, broken only by the cockcrow or the singing of birds or chirping of crickets, plus the scent of wild-growing camomile mint and many other herbs make a stay in our vineyard a pure pleasure for body and mind.’ The owners invite you not only to take a stroll with a glass of wine in hand but, if you would like, to lend a hand in the vineyard, which, as it turns out, can be pure pleasure. A winter vine-cutting is organised every year on the first weekend of March. The event is celebratedwith homemade red borscht, sausagesroasted over an open fire, and, of course, wine. Szykowna Vineyard scores highly in competitions every year, mainly thanks to the tough hard work of those involved.
