It is the only educational and cultural institution in Krakow that comprehensively deals with glass and ceramics. Here, you can see glass made live and become a glassmaker yourself.
The facility is part of the Institute of Ceramics and Building Materials and is located in the post-industrial part of Krakow, in Zabłocie. The Krakow Glassworks consists of:
- A permanent exhibition “Glass in Krakow. Industry and Art. 1931-1998” – on the history and technology of glass-making, including a collection of original tools used for hand-made glass, a collection of antique glassware from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as a collection of contemporary artistic coloured glasses, which were produced in the years 1969-1998 at ul. Lipowa 3.
- Lipowa 3 Gallery, which organises cyclical exhibitions of works by Polish contemporary artists, and at the same time offers original, hand-made glass and ceramics (platters, bowls, glasses, figurines, boxes, jewellery) of Polish artists and their own handicrafts.
- Live demonstrations of manual glass forming, allow you to get to know the fascinating process of glass making up close, and allow you to test your skills in the profession of a metallurgist-glass maker.
