Rynek Główny 12, 32-600 Oświęcim
Tourist region: Oświęcim i okolice
Erected in the 19th century, the one-floor brick house was the seat of the Herz Hotel.
On the occasion of the anniversary of the January Uprising of 1863 celebrated in Oświęcim, Józef Piłsudski (in the rank of brigadier at that time) stayed here along with the officers’ corps of the Polish Legions. During World War II, the Germans rebuilt the hotel in the Heimatstil style according to Hans Storberg’s design. The results of this reconstruction include, e.g., corner arcades and mansard windows in the roof and the liquidation of the cornice and the attic with the name “Herz Hotel”.
