Sąspowska Valley
Nature
Sąspów
Tourist region: Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska
This is one of the most beautiful corners of the Ojców National Park. The park is in a wild and rugged valley, full of caves and limestone buttes, and is home to the Seismological Observatory housed in the Koziarnia Villa.
Covered by strict protection, it is the second largest valley located within the Ojców National Park. It is much wilder and less frequently visited than the Prądnik Valley. The walking route is approximately 5 kilometres long and is marked in yellow. It is worth travelling from Sąspów towards Ojców. The upper part of the valley is covered by rural buildings and the lower part is heavily wooded. A first-class stream, fed by numerous springs, flows through the bottom. The final section features a waterfall almost six metres high. The slopes are dotted with limestone buttresses and small caves. In one such shelter, the oldest human remains in Poland were discovered. Within the valley is the Jamki Gorge, which is under strict protection. While the Sąspowska Valley was once inhabited, there are no residential buildings or farmland in the area today.
