‘In this town, in Wadowice, everything began. Life began, school began, studies began, the theatre began, and the priesthood began.’ This is how Pope John Paul II spoke beautifully of his home town when he visited it for the last time on 16 June 1999.

Wadowice, one of the most important pilgrimage centres in Małopolska, is also a desirable tourist destination, eager to share its secrets, tempting with its colourful history and picturesque location – on the Skawa River, in a valley between the Wieliczka Foothills and the Beskid Mały mountain range. The settlement was first mentioned as early as 1254.


Learn about it at the Tourist Information Centre (CIT) in Wadowice.  The Centre can be found in the very centre of the town,  at Kościelna Street, close to the Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Holy Father Pope John Paul II Family Home Museum, and the Town Museum.


In the Tourist Information Centre, you will obtain information not only on the attractions of Wadowice but also about those that the town’s surroundings that tempt us so. We will find out where to eat well and how to find accommodation that suits us. Like any good CIT, it offers free maps and tourist guides (in many languages). In this Centre you can also rent a bicycle (!) with a corresponding package of information and bicycle guides.


In addition to many publications – folders, brochures, guides, plans, maps, field games, quizzes – the Wadowice CIT has multilingual audio guides to local attractions available to tourists for free. These include the 'Karol Wojtyla Trail' and 'Galician Wadowice'. If you wish, you can also use the travel reading room, which has more than 200 items (maps, guidebooks, atlases). Of course, guidebooks and unusual souvenirs can also be purchased at CIT.


It is worth noting that the Centre also organises many events, not only tourist events. These include Family Cycling Rally, World Tourism Day celebrations, Beskid Guide Course, Mountain Film Review, the Without Passport’Traveller’s Club', historical walking tours, games and quizzes, photo competitions, outdoor exhibitions, and Christmas parties.

The Centre also runs a comprehensive website. There, you will find the most up-to-date information on what is interesting in the region and get tips on where and what to visit. It is also a place offering a comprehensive database of accommodation and catering facilities, mobile applications, video and photo galleries, practical information and tips, including local institutions and local government, traffic and parking difficulties, timetables, pharmacies and medical assistance, petrol stations, exchange offices, ATMs, restrooms, and car repair shops.


The Wadowice Tourist Information Centre operates under the auspices of the Town Hall. It also belongs to the Małopolska Tourist Information System, and
it's a very Bicycle Friendly Place – MPR.
