Triassic spring Regulice

32-566 Regulice Tourist region: Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska

It is crystal clear and beautifully situated. The Triassic spring in Regulice flows from limestone formed during the Triassic Period and dolomite rocks hidden deep underground. It has an excellent taste and a constant temperature of 9.2 degrees Celsius, independent of the weather and season.

The spring flows along Jana Pawła II Street and is only one of the springs in Regulice. In the 16th century these springs made it possible to build three sawmills, two of which were on the Regulka River. The remains of one of the mills can be seen today. Due to the excellent quality of the water, plans were made in 1883 to use the spring to supply drinking water to Kraków.
Today, the spring is part of the so-called Alwernia Ecomuseum, which brings together the most interesting geological, natural and cultural sites in the municipality. The area around the spring today serves residents and tourists as a park for walks, rest, and relaxation. Shelters, benches and a hearth have been erected. Attractive decorative elements in the form of sculptures, an arched bridge over a stream and a well make this a charming place to enjoy the peace and quiet. The spring is located on the Regulice – Rudno cycling route.
Also worth noting is the atop the several-metre-high wall rail bed made of stone cut from a long since disused local quarry. The rail bed – in essence, a very big, thick wall – was built between 1897 and 1899 during the construction of a section of the railway running from Spytkowice through Skawce, Alwernia and Regulice to Trzebinia. Italian specialists supervised the work. The line was inaugurated on 15 July 1899. After 103 years of service, the rail line was discontinued in 2002. Today, the Local Handcar Railway runs along this route.
