One of the most beautiful traditions in Krakow, during which the Lajkonik will go from Zwierzyniec to the Main Market Square. Dressed in a Tatar costume and surrounded by a noisy parade, he swings his mace, which brings luck for the whole next year!
- Eight days after Corpus Christi, a colourful parade traverses the city streets, led by a colourful horse with a bearded rider on its back. It is an ancient tradition, linked by some to the 13th-century Tatar invasion on the city. Lajkonik’s route has remained unchanged for several years now – from Senatorska Street to the Norbertine Sisters’ Monastery, then along Kościuszki and Zwierzyniecka Streets, to the Krakow Philharmonic, and finally along Franciszkańska and Grodzka Streets to the Main Market Square. The true Lajkonik can be seen only once a year, eight days after Corpus Christi, and only then the touch of his mace brings luck.

- In the Main Market Square, Lajkonik will collect a “tribute” from the Mayor and together they will drink a toast to the prosperity of the residents. The history of this tradition dates back to the mid-18th century. A popular legend links Lajkonik with saving Krakow from a Tatar invasion.

- A detailed programme of the parade will be published closer to the event date on the organiser’s website: https://www.muzeumkrakowa.pl/aktualnosci/lajkonik
