It was built in 1901–1902 by Wojciech Roj, a close associate of Stanisław Witkiewicz, in the Zakopane style. Around the mid-1920s, The villa was bought by Mrs de Pourbeix-Zakrzewska, who covered the roof with red metal sheets and renamed it the 'Red Manor'. The name has remained as it is to this day. Artur Rubinstein was a guest at the villa, Stefan Żeromski and his son Adam lived there, as did Karol Szymanowski. Szymanowski's guests included Zofia Nałkowska, Rafał Malczewski, Zbigniew Uniłowski and Henryk Sztompka. After 1945, the building housed an outpost of the unit of the legendary Józef Kuraś, alias 'Ogień'. In 2016, the building underwent a general renovation and was designated as a cultural centre promoting the native art of Zakopane. The Centre hosts exhibitions of the works of artists from the Podhale region, workshops of folk art, lectures and talks. Visitors here can learn about traditional glass painting.
