Krzyż Krzeczów

The cross in Krzeczów

Duży metalowy krzyż widziany o zmierzchu

Krzeczów, 32-433 Krzeczów Tourist region: Kraków i okolice

On one of the new sections of the S7 route from Kraków to Zakopane, exactly halfway between Kraków and Zakopane, in the middle of the Beskid Wyspowy Mountains, a 27-metre cross rises on the Kiecka Hill at 631 masl above sea level.

The cross welcomes and inspires all tourists who come to the area to reflect. The Cross was erected to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Karol Wojtyła (St. John Paul II), who wandered the Beskid trail many times. It recalls the pacification of Krzeczów and the killing of the villagers by the Nazis in June 1943.

The steel structure, measuring 27 metres, rises on the highest hill in Krzeczów (631 masl above sea level). Thanks to the illumination of light, the Cross is visible from afar at all times. It is worth visiting this place, because it offers an incredibly beautiful view of Mt Babia Gora and the Tatra Mountains. You can also set off from there on a further hike to Szczebel and Luboń Wielki. Increasingly, the Cross also serves as a venue for meetings and outdoor events. Due to the fact that the structures were erected relatively recently,  i.e., in 2020, this is a new and as yet largely unknown attraction.

The cross in Krzeczów won the Tourist Treasures of Małopolska competition in 2023 in the category of Unique Tourist Attraction.
