This museum would not exist if it were not for Count Emeryk Hutten-Czapski and his passion. He was an outstanding Polish numismatic collector, who amassed one of the most valuable collections of Polish coins, medals and banknotes. Today, they can be seen in the Czapski Palace, which is one of te branches of the National Museum in Cracow.

He was a versatile personality. Count Emeryk Hutten-Czapski was passionate about numismatics, a bibliophile, collector of graphics, works of art and Polish memorabilia. The museum named after him is the oldest and largest branch of the National Museum in Krakow. The main building is the neoclassical Czapski Palace, built in 1884 according to the design of Antoni Siedek. Today, you can admire his collection of unique or even legendary coins, as well as medals, rare old prints and maps. At the historic Palace, there is a garden with hundred-year-old trees, in which there are fragments of Krakow's Gothic buildings, for example a 14th century stone turret from St. Mary's Basilica. The museum organises workshops and educational activities for both children and adults.
