Biecz, often referred to as ‘Little Kraków’ or ‘Polish Carcassonne’, is a gem among towns in southern Poland. Although it is a small town, its treasures are the envy of manya metropolis... Its location on a lofty hill above the Raba Valley – on the border of Małopolska and Podkarpacie (Subcarpathian) regions – adds to its charm.

Remarkably, Biecz was granted a town charter at the same time as Kraków. It was also one of the largest cities in the Kingdom of Poland for a very long time. Polish kings of the Piast and Jagiellon dynasties had three castles and their sumptuous courts here. It owed its exceptional growth to trade routes and royal privileges and, in more recent times, to the oil and railroad industries. On historic routes – including to Biecz – during the holiday season, you can still encounter vintage trains from the first half of the 20th century, restored and on daily display at the Rolling Stock Open-Air Museum in Chabówka,  part of the Małopolska Railway Tourism Route.

Biecz, despite the passage of years, has not lost its charm. No, on the contrary! In the town, within the confines of in its well-preserved medieval urban form, you will find 14th-century defensive walls, 15th- and 16th-century houses and townhouses, 16th- and 17th-century churches, an impressive Market Square and a magnificent Town Hall with a massive tower... These are just some of this delightful town's numerous charms.

The Biecz Tourist Information Point is an attraction in itself  located in the little-changed medieval cellars of the Town Hall, right in the middle of Biecz's Market Square (from there, you can reach the viewing terrace of the Town Hall tower, from where there is a magnificent panorama of the Ropa Valley, the Beskid Niski and the Carpathian Foothills). Adjacent to PIT, behind a solid wall, is the executioner's turma – a medieval prison. It should be mentioned here that Biecz – due to local robbers – had the right to carry out the death penalty (sword law), which gave rise to the intriguing legend of the Biecz school of executioners, where the art of torture and killing was taught.

The Biecz Tourist Information Point provides comprehensive and practical information and free materials – in several languages – with suggestions of the most interesting routes and places (guides, folders, leaflets, maps and plans). Among them are, quite uniquely, materials in Braille, spatial displays and tactile maps. PIT also cooperates with local, regional and national institutions.

So, if you are looking for information about Biecz and its surroundings, you will definitely find it here. You will also find the most up-to-date news about local events and celebrations, and staff will suggest restaurants that offer delicious food and places where you can have a great night's rest.

The Biecz Tourist Information Point is part of the Małopolska Tourist Information System.
