The small mining town of Libiąż is located in the immediate vicinity of Chrzanów and Trzebinia, in the so-called Jaworzno-Chrzanów Industrial District. It can be comfortably reached from Kraków by car or train in little more than three quarters of an hour.
Most of us probably wouldn't expect to find a real vineyard in such a post-industrial and urbanised area. Let us not forget, however, that this is the south-western edge of the Krakow-Częstochowa Upland. For centuries, the southern part of the Upland region has been known for its grape growing, and today it is also the centre of a resurgent Małopolska wine industry.
Currently covering an area of more than four hectares, the Libiąż Vineyard was founded in 2011 by Mr and Mrs Ewa and Mr Piotr Kurdziel. The vineyard is located in a part of the town called 'Libiąż Mały', which has retained a relatively idyllic character, with single-family buildings loosely scattered among gardens, orchards, and groves. The plantation is situated on a gentle hill elevated a few tens of metres above the surrounding terrain, approximately 310–320 metres above sea level, on a west-facing slope. Today, more than 18,000 vines of more than a dozen varieties are grown here. The diversity of varieties allows for a relatively wide range of wines.
The Libiąż Vineyard is one of the few Polish wineries that produces liqueur wines. Sparkling wines have also been made here for a few years. The vineyard's offer is also complemented by its own grape distillates aged for a long time in oak barrels.
The facility consists of a vineyard and Tasting Room, capable of accommodating dozens of people, where you can discover the wealth of flavours and aromas of the Libiąż vineyard wines.
